Their expertise ranges from manufacturing works of art as far as car interiors go to record-shattering sedans that can keep up with the fastest supercars in the world.

Over the years, Brabus has also been known to be a master at shoehorning larger than needed engines in smaller car bodies. Their most famous examples are probably the legacy of taking an "ordinary" E-Klasse – the so-called "taxi of Germany" - and squeezing a V12 engine under the hood. Did we say V12 engine? We meant the internal combustion engine equivalent to a nuclear plant.

Because Brabus wasn't just creating odd conversions but true freaks of nature with this whole big-engine-into-small-car tuning genre. In more ways than expected, the process was pretty similar to how the earliest American muscle cars were created, except that Brabus' conversions work go quite a little more custom than that. Besides the engines, their work includes upgraded brakes, suspension kits, exhausts, transmissions, etc. and these are just a small part of the whole operation.

The first car to unleash an entire saga of record-breaking E V12s is the W124 Brabus E-Klasse V12 conversion kit. It looked like a mildly modified E500, but after going to a complete overhaul, the icing on the car's cake was represented by the addition of a 6.9-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 508 horsepower and a truck-like 710 Nm (523.7 lb ft) of torque under the hood.

That was only a humble beginning though, since the W210 E V12 was so monstrous that it was also included in the Guiness Book of Records for being the fastest four door sedan in the world. In order for it to achieve the electronically-limited top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph), Brabus had installed a 7.3-liter version of the aforementioned Mercedes V12. With no less than 582 horsepower and a staggering 780 Nm (575.3 lb ft) of torque on tap, the naturally-aspirated unit was at the time the most powerful street-legal Mercedes engine in the world.

But Brabus didn't stop there. When Mercedes-Benz switched to a twin-turbocharged setup for its series V12 engine, Brabus engineers immediately got to work and for starters managed no less than 640 horsepower and a tire-torturing 1026 Nm (757 lb ft) of torque, from a displacement of 6.3 liters. Installed in the somewhat aerodynamic body of the W211 E-Klasse, that gargantuan beast of an engine managed to give the car a top speed of 350.2 km/h (217.6 mph), enough to break the Guiness Book of Records for the world's fastest four door sedan once again.

A couple of years and a bit more fine tuning later, Bottrop engineers managed to up the ante once again for the twin-turbo V12, increasing its maximum power rating to no less than 730 HP, while torque figures climbed to an insane 1320 Nm (973.6 lb ft) of torque – sadly limited to "just" 1100 nm (811 lb ft) for reasons of transmission obliteration. After being shoved with surgical precision into a CLS "four door coupe", and after a tonne of other modifications, it managed to help it break another world record with a 365.7 km/h (227.2 mph) top speed on the Nardo circuit.

We know it's becoming a bit redundant to announce this by now, but Brabus is far from ending their V12 tuning lunacy, and they most recently proved this by unleashing an 800 hp and 1420 Nm (1047 lb ft) version of the unit. After electronically limiting the torque to 1100 Nm (811 lb ft) for the reason listed above and fitting it to an "ordinary" E-Klasse, the somewhat new four-wheeled monster is apparently able to hit around 370 km/h (230 mph).

As it turns out, we had the chance to experience just how these latest numbers, accompanied by a 598 thousand Euro ex-works specialty car, actually feel like. Needles to say, our opinions about it might feel a little bit fade, since there are very few words to encompass just how mental this car really is.
DEEP IMPACT (INTERIOR)
The interior of this car is pretty much the embodiment of Brabus' expertise in luxury and opulence, refraining no expense when it comes to treating all your five senses. Everything is practically drenched in soft leather, with no less than eleven hides covering the seats from top to bottom, the dashboard, the three-spoke steering wheel, the pillars and the ceiling.

The attention to detail of the Bottrop-workers can be found in almost every element of the interior. The "Brabus" emblem stitches on each headrest, the diamond patterns on the leather floor mats and even the brown-painted carbon fiber inserts with the chequered flag pattern just scream compulsive care from its manufacturers. Our test vehicle was equipped with beige and black softer-than-a-baby's-bottom leather with enough hand-made stitches to eclipse just about any shed-built supercar.

The overall interior space hosts five persons in complete comfort even if they hate each other and can't stand enclosed areas. A small minus is for the driver and front-passenger seats which, although FAR from giving you any claustrophobic symptoms, are a bit more crowded than we would have expected. Don't take it the wrong way, the front seats aren't crammed or anything, they're just very antithetical in space providing compared with the rear bench, considering they were "borowed" from a much smaller car. All in all, we could definitely call the Brabus E V12's interior as home if we could.

All in all, just like we mentioned in th Brabus GLK test drive, to say that the E V12's interior workmanship is top notch would probably be the understatement of the decade. The quality of each handmade stitching, the feel of the leather upholstery, the Alcantara or the look of the carbon fiber checkered flag inserts is simply mind-blowing. We've never seen so much attention to detail, especially since we're technically talking about a tuner car.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-48071290579431751022011-04-05T13:31:00.000-07:002011-04-05T13:34:16.361-07:00Alfa Romeo 4C

After much speculation and rumors, Alfa has finally shown the shape of the its diminutive sportscar in the metal at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Judging by the number of journalists that are visiting the Italian carmaker’s stand, this looks set to become a star.

The Mito and the Giulietta have received praises from both press and European customers, but the 4C promises to be the first affordable rear-wheel drive sportcar from Alfa in a long time. It will act like as a halo car for the brand, though at a much more affordable price than the 8C Competizione.

The Porsche Boxster-like configuration of rear-wheel drive and mid-mounted engine is underpinned by the hardcore KTM X-Bow. “Distinguished by its graceful and clean external lines, the same principles are also applied to the inside, with the Concept's specific on-board design maintaining features and devices which directly reflect the car's sporting spirit,” states the carmaker regarding the 4C’s styling.

The concept blends technologies from both the 8C (carbon, aluminium, rear-wheel drive) and from regular models currently on sale, namely the 1750 turbo petrol engine with direct injection, the "Alfa TCT" twin dry clutch transmission and the Alfa DNA dynamic control selector.

The name "4C Concept" is suggestive of the "4 cylinder" 1750 Turbo Petrol engine, which offers over 200 hp. The mill is already featured on a number of models in production, like the Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde, and comes with direct injection, dual continuous variable valve timing, turbocharger and the revolutionary scavenging control system which reduces turbo lag.

Coupled with the new automatic "Alfa TCT" twin dry clutch transmission, launched only a few months ago on the MiTo, the 1750 Turbo gives the concept car a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of under 5 seconds.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-15478467504944109782011-04-01T06:06:00.000-07:002011-04-01T06:07:19.518-07:00Kia to Reveal New Rio Sedan at New YorkImage via WikipediaThe word on the street is that Kia will lift the covers off a sedan version of its new Rio series in a world premiere at the upcoming 2011 New York International Auto Show in mid-April. Its 'poised for action' wedge-shape stance, muscular arched fenders and standard 17-inch alloy wheels all reflect the vehicle's eagerness to provide a spirited and responsive driving experience.

"The SX4 sedan will be one of the best-equipped compact cars in America and will perfectly complement our lineup of versatile vehicles," said Koichi Suzuki, president of ASMC automotive operations. "Since New York has been home to so many of our significant vehicle introductions, we're delighted to return and kick off the second quarter of 2007 with the launch of Suzuki's latest exciting product."

The SX4 sedan arrives on the heels of an impressive 2006, when American Suzuki enjoyed sales of more than 100,000 vehicles for the first time in its 22-year history. Last year's automotive sales were up 23 percent from 2005 and mark the company's third consecutive double-digit annual sales increase.

Powertrain
Built in Japan, the SX4 sedan features a sophisticated 2.0-liter, in-line four-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC engine rated at 143 horsepower and 136 lb.-ft. of torque, making it more powerful than the segment volume leaders. It is available with either an automatic or a five-speed manual transmission.

Handling
The chassis of the SX4 sedan evolved from the award-winning Suzuki Swift that received numerous industry accolades worldwide, including many "Car of the Year" awards in Europe and Asia. With an emphasis on dynamic performance, the sport-tuned SX4 sedan brings the excitement of the Swift to the U.S. market. The SX4 sedan features a rigid steel unibody underpinned by a well-controlled chassis that was fine-tuned in Europe to provide stability, crisp and responsive handling and braking, and minimal body roll. For optimal braking performance, it features four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes as standard equipment.

Exterior Styling
Inspired by a Japanese Kabuki mask, the SX4 sedan has an aggressive front fascia and grille, and appears poised for action with a sporty wedge shape that foreshadows its rewarding driving experience. Its muscular and athletic stance is enhanced by its arched fenders, while the body features a low, rising waistline and large, triangular-shaped windows forward of the front doors to emphasize the car's great traction and dynamic performance. The SX4 sedan also features a standard aero body kit, complete with an available rear spoiler.

Interior
The stylish design continues inside the SX4 sedan. Wide door openings provide the driver and passengers with superior ease of entry and egress, while the large cabin proportions and command seating position optimize visibility to enhance driving confidence and control. The cabin allows comfortable seating for five, with more overall interior space than the segment's volume leaders. The SX4 sedan also features theater-style seating for the rear passengers.

A functional and high-tech center panel offers large, circular controls flanked by modern aluminum- colored trim. Instruments and controls are backlit by contemporary, high-tech red lighting, and the ergonomic design of the instrument cluster and dashboard provides clear views of the meters and easy access to the controls for a true driver-oriented cabin. The sporty cockpit theme extends throughout the cabin with a dark interior that features black cloth for a look that is both sharp and refined.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-30327138720333605742011-03-08T08:52:00.000-08:002011-03-08T08:56:06.419-08:001968 Chevrolet Camaro<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxCaJ7ecAsRLToiHMNwvcqh0ARRRoMN4HYHIIbDJCuAauLQYoniU_j2ve_xL3kSz3F8wY5PRv-BFECwR2Sxhw_WCxDIWPwDCsPdwlefRI7CKkZBEW7Y506PF42g5_decFca5I6ircMEkw/s400/jd2030.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581753897198051266" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihpJSqRwahxXgrL5AOHbVm-kPfW7QG8aX5_Z6M97N9GEsYbF6ZNWarycaVsVO1xrzTuYCmmBsbzHCPWGPF3Ez7CxokPU0fl00SIlyX3OmiDv9s2umhtXNYs_hA2itNsLVfw1CwJJbmHac/s400/1968_Chevrolet_Camaro_RS_SS_Hardtop_Driver_Side_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581753897967692018" />
A totally amazing blast from the past, this muscle car is for the win :)

Production:
RS: 40,977
SS: 27,884
Z-28: 7,199

Engines:
230 I6 140bhp.
250 I6 155bhp @ 4200rpm, 235lb-ft @ 1600rpm.

327 V8 210bhp.
327 V8 275bhp.
350 V8 255bhp.
(SS350) 350 V8 295bhp @ 4800rpm, 380lb-ft @ 3200rpm.
(SS396) 396 V8 325bhp @ 4800rpm, 410lb-ft @ 3200rpm.
(SS396) 396 V8 350bhp @ 5200rpm, 415lb-ft @ 3200rpm.
(SS396) 396 V8 375bhp @ 5600rpm, 415lb-ft @ 3600rpm.

Performance:
(SS396) 396/325bhp: 0-60 in 6.6 sec, 1/4 mile in 15.0 sec @ 94mph.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-19231510333928736792011-02-17T10:00:00.001-08:002011-02-17T10:05:08.159-08:002011 BMW M3The 2011 BMW M3 features an all-new BMW M Power V-8 engine with 555 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, the X5 M and X6 M are the first BMW M products with twin-turbochargers, High Precision Direct Injection, xDrive all-wheel drive, Dynamic Performance Control torque-vectoring final drive, run-flat tires, and FlexRay on-board networking. The patented Cylinder-bank Comprehensive exhaust Manifold (CCM) perfectly feeds the four twin-scroll turbochargers with exhaust gas for maximum linearity and response. The results of these new technological solutions are a Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupe each able to 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and truly world-class road holding abilities, without sacrifice in comfort or versatility.

Power

The 2011 M3s (Sedan, Coupe, and Convertible) will feature an engine stop/start function. Thanks to this scheme, average fuel consumption will be reduced by 8% while C02 emissions are cut by 24 g/km. According to BMW, the M3 Coupe and M3 Sedan will accomplish an average fuel consumption of 11.2 l/100km (21 mpg US) with the optional 7-speed M dual clutch transmission - manual models consume 12.4 l/100km (19 mpg US). On the other hand, the M3 Convertible has an average fuel consumption of 11.5 l/100km (20.4 mpg US), M dual clutch transmission with Drivelogic, and 12.7 l/100km (18.5 mpg US) with 6-speed manual transmission.

MPG

Interior

The Chilled Weather package adds heated front seats and retractable headlight washers. The Premium package adds power-folding auto dimming mirrors, BMW Assist telematics, Bluetooth, leather upholstery and different interior trim. The Expertise package adds electronic damping control, M Drive adjustable settings, keyless ignition/entry, the iDrive electronics interface and a navigation scheme with voice controls and real-time traffic. Most of the above items are available as stand-alone options along with 19-inch wheels, a sunroof (deletes carbon-fiber roof on the coupe), rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, power rear sunshade (coupe and sedan), a split-folding rear seat (sedan), satellite radio, an iPod/USB adapter and a 16-speaker premium sound scheme

Design

The 2011 BMW M3 is available in sedan, coupe and convertible body styles. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, a limited-slip rear differential, automatic and adaptive xenon headlights, automatic wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The new M3 is also available as a 4-door sedan, based on the E90 3-Series sedan, but unlike the regular sedans, the M3 version shares the coupes wide and sculpted front finish, including headlights. Sedans however, do not get the coupe's carbon fiber roof, and are 22 lbs heavier, than identically equipped coupes.

The front and rear bumper, the wing mirrors, the headlamps and the tail lamps which return to the classic BMW L-shape as well as bonnet ("hood") and boot lid ("trunk lid") were changed. The rear track on some models was increased by 24 mm (0.9 in ). The BMW kidney grilles were re-arranged with a wider appearance. In the inside high-quality materials and trim are used, also some control elements were changed. The front seats were equipped with crash activated head restraints. The 2011 BMW M3 Coupe looks muscular from behind, its design mirroring the look of the cars front. A discreet lip spoiler on the trunk lid optimizes the cars streamlining and reduces lift on the rear axle. In its contours, the split diffuser beneath the rear bumper takes up the shape of the air intakes at the front of the automobile as the air guide and the dual tailpipes move towards the center line of the automobile, visually contracting the rear finish at the lower center point. The circular shape of the four straight tailpipes is pure BMW M style. So if you are in the market for a quick BMW, check out the 2011 BMW M3.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-16121047795648635122009-01-05T12:36:00.000-08:002009-01-05T12:37:14.039-08:00Toyota Developing Solar-Powered Car

Toyota's Prius is already the runaway leader of hybrid vehicles, but now the automaker is setting its sights on another technology: solar power. A Nikkei newspaper is reporting that Toyota is developing a vehicle that gets some of its power from solar panels, with the ultimate goal of building a car that can be run completely on solar energy.

The first of the two vehicles would only be partially solar-powered, and Toyota wants to ensure it can be recharged at homes generating electricity from solar panel roofs. It will be several years before such a vehicle is ready for production. The second car, which Toyota envisions as a completely solar-powered car, is even further off.

Toyota will likely gain access to additional solar power technology this year when Panasonic Corp., its partner in developing and producing hybrid batteries, acquires Sanyo Electric *** a leader in solar energy.

Toyota already uses solar panels on the roofs of its Tsutsumi plant in central Japan to produce some of its electricity. The panels cover an area equivalent to 60 tennis courts, and produce enough electricity to power 500 homes-the same as using 1,500 barrels of crude oil. By using the solar panels, Toyota hopes to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 740 tons each year.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-51082195521051232832009-01-05T12:29:00.001-08:002009-01-05T12:29:48.059-08:00Porsche Panamera

Click above for a high-res image gallery of the Porsche Panamera

Underscoring the continued importance that automakers are placing on the Chinese market (especially in this difficult economic environment), Porsche has made it official that the new Panamera will debut in the Middle Kingdom in April. Porsche's new four door hatchback coupe/sedan gran turismo thingy will get its first public showing at the Shanghai Motor Show from April 20-28. In spite of its controversial looks, the Panamera should not be wanting for performance. Direct injected engines ranging from the Volkswagen 3.6-liter V6 up to 500 horsepower turbo V8 from the Cayenne will be available.

Backing up the engines will be a choice of 6-speed manual and 7-speed PDK dual clutch gearboxes, with power going to either the rear or both axles. At some point in the next couple of years, Porsche will add its hybrid system to the Panamera as well. Now, if they would just do something about the humpback looks, we might be able to get excited about its arrival.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-49270099257482303342008-12-30T00:07:00.000-08:002009-01-02T16:55:48.134-08:00Chevrolet Car Wallpaper

<img style="display:block; BMW will offer all-wheel-drive on the luxury sedan starting in late 2009.

BMW has been doing final cold-weather testing of its all-wheel-drive 750i prototype in Rovaniemi, Finland. In late 2009, the option should become available to the public as an ‘xDrive’ version of the 750. This marks the first time all-wheel-drive will be offered on BMW’s flagship sedan. It should be a welcome addition to those in the north tired of driving Audi A8s and Mercedes-Benz S550 4Matics.

The xDrive system offered will feature the same technology as the xDrive system on the X6. That system allows torque to be distributed electronically to each wheel, there is an added feature, however, on the 7-series. The 7-series will get hill descent control for traveling down those treacherous snowy mountain passes. The 2009 BMW 750 with xDrive will be the first sedan in its class to offer this feature.

Expect to pay for ordering xDrive. The option will cost somewhere between $3500 and $4000 when it debuts. Impressively, it only adds 110 lbs to the vehicles already hefty 5700 lb curb weight. The 159 uses the GM/Fiat Premium platform, shared with the Brera, Spider, and concept cars Kamal and Visconti.
The 159 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro in collaboration with the Alfa Centro Stile. The nose features a traditional Alfa Romeo V-shaped grille and bonnet, and cylindrical head light clusters. A high waistline broadens until it reaches the rear "C" pillar. The interior also features styling treatments familiar from earlier cars, including the 156, such as deeply recessed instruments which are angled towards the driver. However, the 159 is larger than its predecessor at 4660 millimetres (183.4 in) long (some 225 mm (8.9 in) longer than the Alfa 156), 1828 mm (71.9 in) wide and 1417 mm (55.7 in) high.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-87808646684337290652008-12-29T23:17:00.000-08:002009-01-02T16:55:48.136-08:002009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Take "Tiger" and "Iguana" and you get "Tiguan" - Nope, I'm not kidding!
2 liters of Goodness from the Old Country
By: Nathan Adlen

Even in its base ‘S’ form, the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan is a well executed, handsome vehicle. The outstanding 2.0 liter, turbocharged 4 cylinder engine offered in the current GTI is the only engine available in the new Tiguan.

Thank goodness!

With 200 horsepower and 206 lbs feet of torque, there’s lots of getup-and-go in the Volkswagen Tiguan. The Tiguan ‘S’ has a standard 6 speed manual (an optional 6 speed automatic transmission is offered for about $1,000). What you don’t get with the S is Volkswagen’s excellent 4Motion all-wheel-drive system which is available only with the automatic on the upper level SE and SEL packages.

You will get slightly better mileage with the manual and front-wheel-drive. I averaged in the low 20’s while driving like a fool. I’m sure it can achieve the mid to upper 20’s with a conservative driver. The 4Motion system drops the efficiency a tad.

I highly recommend the excellent 4Motion system for anyone who drives in snow, ice, mud, gravel or a mix of anything else. Most Coloradans will appreciate the seamless 4Motion system when slogging through slush and ice. Couple that to standard 4-wheel discs and a well tuned 4-wheel independent suspension. Steering can be light at slow speeds, but the electronic power steering unit builds effort as speeds increase in a predictable, linier fashion.

Compared to the Volkswagen Tiguan’s main competition (Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-7, Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson etc.) the Tiguan absolutely has the most sophisticated interior. Though not quite as driver orientated as the Mazda CX-7, the Tiguan’s interior is comfortable and supremely well made. I found a very comfortable perch and loved the fully adjustable steering wheel. The ride height is near ideal and this is a very easy vehicle to load.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is an excellent platform for small families to be sure.

The Tiguan S's interior. No one in this price bracket (about $24,000 base to around $38,000 fairly loaded) can match Volkswagen’s interior quality. The price is the main concern for the Tiguan as the competition can be noticeably cheaper.

It all comes down to quality, driving dynamics and design.

The 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan has all three in spades.

source

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-19019062082507330662008-12-29T23:14:00.000-08:002009-01-02T16:55:48.137-08:00Mitsubishi Outlander XLS V6

Simply put: it works - well

Third row seats are not always essential for family vehicles. The sheer weight, size and packaging of most folding seats increases the heft of many vehicles they are put in. That is not quite the story of the Mitsubishi Outlander. The addition of the (optional) 3rd row seat in the Outlander adds just over 100 lbs which keeps the 4WD, V6 Outlander’s total weight to 3671.

What makes the Outlander so compelling to me is what it offers for the price. The excellent 3.0 V6 in the XLS produces 220 horsepower (204 lbs feet of torque) and it is paired to a sophisticated paddle shifting 6-speed automatic. My favorite feature is the 3 mode drive system: a rotary dial that allows you to choose from front-wheel-drive to 4-wheel-drive (inclement weather) to “Lock” (deep mud and snow). It can handle more than most drivers will throw at it including light off road driving.

I have spent a lot of time driving various versions of the Outlander and I can confidently say that it is a remarkably utilitarian vehicle which is a joy to drive. Once you get past the cheap, hard plastics (especially the door panels) you will find a well laid out, functional cockpit. There are 13 storage areas, comfortable seats (front and back), 9 cup holders and plenty of useable amenities.

The rear loading floor is very low and flat. The rear seats flip and fold while the way-back seat (which is rather flimsy – but safe) folds directly into the floor like origami. A nifty half tailgate drops down for easy-peasy loading and great butt space for tailgating.

The optional 650 watt (that’s TONS) Rockford Fosgate stereo system is particularly nice. I am not a fan of the gaudy looking (read wanabe Hip-Hop) trunk mounted, subwoofer. It takes little space though I feel it looks amateurish and belongs in cars like the Lancer and Eclipse. Still, it adds to the great sound.

This is a great driving machine that I would recommend to anyone who wants a little bit of fun with their small crossover SUV. For a quality, reliable vehicle that costs between $20,000 to just under $35,000 loaded, you could do a lot worse. For any Coloradan I say the Mitsubishi Outlander works – well.

Very well indeed.

source

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-42739528738695212932008-12-29T23:13:00.000-08:002009-01-02T16:55:48.137-08:002009 Hummer H3T

Forget the piggish H2, H1 and the stereotypical images associated with their owners. Consider the H3T the Hummer that General Motors should have built in the first place. The optional front and rear locking differentials, 19 inch ground clearance and 4,400 lbs towing capacity (with the automatic transmission – 2,900 with the manual) is fantastic for any vehicle in its class.

Where the H2 was bravado with mediocre capability (it is nothing more than a beefier Tahoe/Suburban with square body panels) the H3 and H3T are MUCH better off road and more economical. It gets in the low 20’s mpg which isn’t too bad – for an off-road truck (with the manual and small engine). Yes, they borrow parts from GM’s Colorado and Canyon, but it has a better effect on these smaller models. I truly enjoyed my ground pounding in the base model H3 with the 5 (yes, five) cylinder engine and the manual. The H3T is longer and heavier, but a great ride none the less.

The Hummer H3T currently comes only in a 4-door cab configuration. The front seats are very comfortable, although those with long torsos may be left wanting more headroom. Legroom is good up-front while rear seat comfort is great for average sized people and a tad tight for tall folk. Bed configuration is one size only with an in-bed length of 59.3 inches and an in-bed width of 50.5 inches. This is the perfect size for a quad bike, a few motorcycles or serious camping gear.

As a real off road pickup truck, the H3T is hard to beat. Even the base price model ($31,495) is a mighty capable off-road machine. Using GM’s plethora of Hummer options you can add things like a big V8 and suspension upgrades to enhance your machine (add a hefty fully loaded price of about $50,000 for the H3T Alpha). Also, the huge sliding roof is really cool.

Look, I love Jeep – but they don’t make a proper pickup truck. With its long 212.7 inch length, this Hummer is as long as many full size, 4-door pickups. None of those pickups can keep up with a well equipped H3T off road. It truly impressed me with its mountain-goat appetite for the rough stuff. It can do it all and hold it all; what a great utility machine!

It’s a shame about the negative image…

Look, if you need the features of a real Jeep, but also need a pickup, consider the H3T.

It’s worth a gander.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-22131488915729914492008-12-29T23:09:00.000-08:002009-01-02T16:55:48.137-08:002009 Mazda Review
Better than its name implies!

There is something about the new Mazda 6 that has automotive writers chirping. Some feel it is a softer, heavier, less dynamic replacement for the original Mazda 6. Others feel it is a Lexus competitor with a discount price-tag. Some even consider the new Mazda 6 a fine Japanese car that pays homage to sharp European cars.

I think they are all right.

The 2009 Mazda 6 is completely different from its older brother.

Weighing between 3,300 and 3,500 lbs, the Mazda 6 is mid-pack on the mid-size car bracket. The Mazda 6 is 193.7 inches in length, which is several inches longer than its predecessor. This is the same territory as larger luxury cars from Lexus, Acura and Mercedes. The Mazda 6’s width at 72.4 inches is in that same ball park. It’s a big car – a very big car compared to the older Mazda 6.

The 170 horsepower 4 cylinder with 5 speed automatic transmission with the 4 cylinder proved a fine combination. The 6 speed manual (only available with the 4 banger) shifts tight while the engagement is positive and sporty. It’s still a heavy, large car, but the 170 horsepower engine proved more than adequate. For a real good time, sample the 3.7 liter, 272 horsepower (269 lbs feet of torque) V6.

Confession time: I have a real soft spot for mid 80s German sport sedans. They were a bit more sport than luxury and still managed to coddle you. I feel that the new Mazda 6 is representative of that image. In fact, it feels a bit European. The leather seats are firm, but comfortable; the chassis is solid, yet responsive. It is a real joy to drive and the comfortable back seat is commodious as is the massive trunk.

Driving through the sweeping turns near Franktown and the fast highway straights going towards Colorado Springs, nothing could upset the balance of the Mazda 6.

What gets me about this car (other than its sumptuous lines) is what you get for the price. Even the base model at just under $20,000 is well equipped. If you lay out a fully loaded price of about $34,000 you will have a Lexus contender on the cheap. No kidding, this car is like a well equipped Luxury car for mild mannered mid-sized car prices.

The 2009 Mazda 6 is a luxurious, spirited, attractive vehicle.

AND it won’t break the bank!

source

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4065657897535686682.post-64752854111095926662008-12-29T17:53:00.000-08:002009-01-02T16:55:48.138-08:00Future Cars Photo Part 4

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF5JQu2jDDJcRAGTae3HFhmOU_LRdlS1JSood3KQV1iaeFiAsN8CWrBlq6hto1ltM2P3izsklMchPhY7PKGUCiPtFBle5fg9vJYOGpuHRmgYb0_m40R64Gs_Xpo75i5FR7eeKGIy3cJyt4/s400/Like_a_bull_by_maxon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285395715511508258" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKCHiXhHa80YmOWKCr_I87WhDWOhiHYuwnSEkPX699hhFfssoEHvslNJUPKLFboB_BIBIQHuBqS-6OqDKv4SYTZFQ9KV6pkrRIDwnKRiwleaE8JAkai_d9J6SBA_N4LcV38u5o1YsVIUik/s400/Holden_Project_by_roobi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285395707118316530" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 292px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV1YSICqFlRnhUtlX8cAlqUeAycBWV5XE6vg7a2MkuJ5xaarOGDrYDQk6Wo1vjGjSFfNJVRo4cYJ0Kf5ciiBsl1qvEc3y8TBmPHHT-tloypr7RAePg_j0wxZmaucxrPEERVkRIeDLl0b8w/s400/Ford_GT_Tungsten_by_AtixVector.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285395702493409602" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
